Dear friends,

I make a big assumption when you read my blog. I couple of them really. I assume you care about autism. I assume you care about what I have to say.

Today, I’m boldly stepping out with an even bigger assumption. I’m assuming that you care enough to help someone you don’t know. I’m assuming that you’ll do the things I’m about to ask you, because it’s the right thing to do. Because if it were you & your child, you would want it done for you. Because if it really were your child, I’d be doing this for you too. Because that’s who I am. Because I’m assuming, I’m hoping really, that’s who you are.

1. Please go & read Gomey’s story. He’s a 19 year old young man with autism who was taken from his home in a fashion that I can only call ignorant without busting out all of the cuss words at my disposal (& I know them in more than one language).

2. Please put a call in to the hospital, 514-323-7260 ext 2600 (this will give you admissions) & ask to speak with or leave a message for Dr. Andrew Mass. He is in charge of Gomey’s care. At the minimum, request (demand, whatever you feel led to do), that the hospital follows Gomey’s special diet that he needs to follow due to his metabolic disorder. Anything you say above & beyond that, well, more power to you & to Gomey!

3. The other information I have is the name & number of the social worker who started the wheels of this whole mess into motion. Call to have them step in to do the right thing. Ask to speak w/supervisors to have the case re-evaluated, put under review/scrutiny, something.

4. Please pass this along to everyone you know. The more people who know, are aware, call, & eventually email, the more pressure can be put on the people who are doing this to do the right thing by Gomey, which would be getting him HOME!
